The Swiss winemakers guide
Although Le Journal du Sommelier #2 “Switzerland” features a large number of the Journal du Sommelier team’s favourite Swiss winemakers and their incredible creations, we had to make some Shakespearean choices…
So we created the digital Swiss Winemakers Directory to share ALL our Swiss favourites and ALL the talented winemakers the country has to offer.
It is our uncompromising selection of the best producers we have had the chance to discover. The directory is updated every year (last update: October 2022).
We are not big fans of “giving scores” to food and wine. Our aim is therefore not to rate the producers but to list them, so that as many people as possible can discover them. We apply three criteria in our selection:
- the quality of the wines: before being listed in the directory, a selection of each producer’s wines is systematically tasted. The tasting is approved by sommeliers, as well as by wine professionals and enthusiasts. For us, it guarantees that every wine in this guide is a quality wine!
- their contribution to promoting Swiss wines: we talk with every producer featured in this booklet. These meetings help us better understand the winemakers’ philosophy and vision. Each with their own methods, they share a common goal: taking Swiss wines to the highest level.
- sustainable wines: certified or not, an environmentally friendly approach seems essential to us today in order to keep creating in a sustainable way. When we meet and talk with producers, we pay attention to the importance they give to the environment and sustainability.
